Our micro rings are made with a COPPER ALLOY. Which means it is a mixture of metals to maintain it’s ductability, and durability. The alloy mixture may contain traces of ALUMINIUM and NICKEL

Although the rings are powder coated in a tough paint (to colour match the rings)

the paint does come off with the use of tools/pliers, revealing the metal underneath.

There is a high possibility of metal - skin contact.

Those with a sensitivity or allergy to NICKEL are advised NOT to use our rings.

Lifespan varies with proper maintenance: Human Hair typically lasts 6-12 months, while Remy Hair can last longer with proper care and aftercare.

Absolutely! However, it is important to prep your hair before going to sleep. After thoroughly brushing your hair to remove any tangles we advise plaiting your hair. This will prevent your hair extensions from moving around too much and matting together. This will also minimise any friction on the mid lengths to the ends of your hair making it easier to brush and style in the morning.

Why It Happens?

Hair extensions can sometimes develop discoloration (resulting in a brassy or faded tone) and matting. Several factors can contribute to these issues:

UV Exposure:

Prolonged exposure to sunlight breaks down the delicate pigments in blonde hair, leading to a washed-out or brassy hue.

Heat Styling:

Styling tools used above 180°C can damage the protective cuticle layer. When the cuticle is compromised, the natural color fades unevenly and may shift to warmer tones.

Product Build-Up:

Residue from styling products, sunscreens, and environmental pollutants can accumulate on the hair. This build-up dulls the vibrancy and shifts the tone toward unwanted warmth — recommended to use Malibu C Swimmers

Water Quality:

Hard water—rich in minerals or chlorine—can interact with hair pigments over time, gradually affecting the colour balance — recommended to use our Malibu C Hard Water Sachets

Iron content - The iron content in the water varies depending on where you live. In certain areas, if you wash your hair extensions in the shower, the iron levels may cause your hair extensions to turn pink or orange in tone (this is more apparent in blonde hair extension). If possible, try to use bottled water or Malibu C Hard Water Sachets.

Hot water - Hot water can cause colour to fade. Due to the heat of the water, the cuticles will open, and the colour will drain out of the hair shaft. To prevent this, we advise washing your hair extensions using lukewarm water.

Sunbeds:

Frequent use of sunbeds exposes extensions to concentrated UVA and UVB radiation. This intense light breaks down the chemical bonds in the hair pigments, while the heat further weakens the cuticle, contributing to a brassy appearance.

Improper Aftercare:

If hair extensions aren’t rinsed and treated immediately after a sunbed session, any residual sweat or treatment residue can combine with the UV- and heat-induced dryness, further contributing to tangling and matting. Blondes are particularly at risk because their hair lacks the robust pigmentation that can sometimes offer a bit more natural protection.

Sweat and Physical Activity:

Sweating, especially during sports or vigorous exercise, can contribute to matting. The build-up of sweat and salt on the hair can make the strands sticky. This moisture, combined with the natural texture of blonde hair extensions, increases the likelihood of tangling and clumping.

Improper Maintenance:

Inadequate detangling or over-washing can make hair more susceptible to the environmental stresses that cause both discolouration and matting — recommend to use Malibu C treatment sachets for prevention and maintenance.

Knotting in Hair Extensions:

Knotting itself is not a manufacturing fault. Knotting will occur naturally as hair extensions are a raw product and will behave the same as natural hair. Excessive knotting can happen with poor maintenance and incorrect aftercare. If you are not thoroughly rinsing the extensions after washing, product will build up and will make the hair extensions sticky or waxy and feel or look greasy; this is what causes them to knot

“Bunching Up” in Hair Extensions

The ‘bunching up’ effect that some hair extension wearers experience is a result of poor porosity. The hair can also look and feel dull and dry, and it expands when washing; this is due generally to damaged and torn cuticles. Poor aftercare, incorrect brushes and excessive heat use are common factors in causing this. The hair will benefit from a deep conditioning treatment to help restore damaged cuticles. Please note: We cannot exchange or refunds any extensions which have been exposed to these elements.

Adopt a Gentle Washing Routine:

Use a sulfate‑free, color‑safe shampoo specifically formulated for extensions. Limit washing to 1‑2 times per week to help preserve the hair’s natural pigments, and consider a clarifying treatment periodically to remove build‑up — recommended to use our Wetlines.

Protect From Heat, UV, and Sweat:

Always apply a heat protectant spray before styling and ensure your tools are set below 180°C. For outdoor activities or sunbed sessions, wear a hat or use a UV protection spray. If you’re engaging in sports or exercise, rinse or gently blot sweat from your extensions as soon as possible to prevent salt build‑up that could lead to matting.

Deep Conditioning:

Use a nourishing conditioner or mask regularly to restore moisture and fortify the cuticle, reducing damage and promoting shine — recommended to use Zen Nourishing Mask.

Regular Maintenance:

Gently detangle your extensions using a brush designed for delicate hair, ideally when they are slightly damp after conditioning. Consistent care helps minimize tangling and matting — recommended to use our Zen hair extension brushes.

Before having your hair extensions installed, you should discuss with your hair extensionist what a maintenance appointment is for, how often you should have one and how much they cost. Asking only benefits you, as many people have different preferences when it comes to hair extension methods and you need to know the option best suited to you and which is worth both your time and money.

For Micro Ring Extensions (I-Tip)

The uplift appointment involves opening each micro ring and moving the extensions back up to their original position. Unlike U-tip extensions, there is no need to use new hair or replace the bond, so if any hair extensions have come out, they would be easily re fitted. An uplift appointment would need to be scheduled around 8 weeks after you have first had your hair extensions fitted due to regrowth and natural shedding.

After a further 8 weeks we would recommend a full ring replacement and this involves removing all extensions and all shedded hair then replacing with new rings. There is no need to purchase new hair.

For Pre-Bonded Extensions (U-Tip)

This maintenance appointment involves scheduling to come back every 6-10 weeks. With this appointment the price would include some new hair, usually 1 pack, which would be used to replace missing or old bonds. During this appointment, any old bonds that might have got weaker, softer or matted since you first had the hair extensions fitted will be replaced. Your extensionist will check through all of your extensions and replace any bonds that need replacing or any that have come out.

For Weft Extensions (Nano Weft / Ultimate Weft)

To ensure longer life and health for extensions and scalp, wefts should be refitted every 5-7 weeks (for fine hair, this may be earlier). Delaying a maintenance appointment can result in excess pressure being placed on the roots which can cause damage.

Weft maintenance is divided into 2 categories: intermediate and full. The intermediate maintenance involves lifting the weft, pinning it away from the row, and loosening the rings. Any shedded hair can be removed from the area and then be tightened. This will last a further 4-7 weeks. Full maintenance involves completely removing the weft and refitting.

For Tape Extensions

This method needs maintenance every 8 to 10 weeks and involves the total removal of hair with a Matrix tape remover spray. The clients hair needs to be clarified to remove the spray and the tapes washed to ensure all product is removed from the hair. After drying, the old tape adhesive is then removed and replaced with new Trax! making sure the surface of the tapes are 100% free of old tape or debris. It’s worth noting that this maintenance appointment is normally twice as long as the initial appointment and to factor this into your pricing, although there is no need to purchase new hair.

This process can be repeated up to 4 times during the hair’s lifespan.
